Mugen

Mugen is a premium pick-your-own sushi restaurant in Christchurch. We were engaged to create a light, inviting space where each group of diners feels a sense of seclusion, while keeping a simple, easy flow from the entry through to the counter.

The layout does the heavy lifting here. Suspended lights are arranged to form a soft "wall" that separates the seating area from the pick-your-own counter, giving diners their own pocket of space without closing the room in. A pared-back material palette of natural timber and soft seating fabrics keeps things warm and honest, and layered lighting adds depth across the space. The result is calm, warm and inviting, exactly the kind of room you want to settle into over a meal.
